Summer Tips Part 1: Can You Handle The Heat of Your Summer Workout?

With so many perks like fresh air, Vitamin D, and beautiful surroundings, it’s easy to forget about some of the challenges that summer heat can throw our way. To help combat these, we’ve shared our top tips on working out in hot weather so you can really enjoy your favorite summertime activities without worry!Know your limits

Time it right

One of the best ways to beat the heat is to schedule your workout in the morning or evening. This is especially key if you’re into heavy cardio that really gets your heart racing, like long runs or bike rides. Depending on cloud coverage and wind speed, peak heat usually falls around 3 pm and 4:30 pm. So even if you’re finding it tricky to squeeze in your workout at the beginning or end of your day, it’s best to steer clear of these hours on sizzling summer days.Start hydrated - stay hydrated 

You’ve probably heard a lot about staying hydrated during exercise, especially in the heat. But it’s just as important, if not more so, to make sure you’re hydrated from the get-go. As some like to say, drink before you’re thirsty. By the time you feel thirsty, you’re already experiencing some dehydration. As a general rule of thumb, try to drink 8 to 10 ounces of fluid every 15 minutes during exercise and continue to hydrate post workout to replace what was lost through sweat (which is more than you’d think!).
