Finally! We’re in the home stretch of winter. But the non-stop news cycle about viruses has us a bit stressed out, and we couldn’t blame you if you’ve been feeling the same way. For a while, we’ve been quietly touting our Fresh Eir to help keep your gear and hands “sanitized”. But now, more than ever, it seems that this is a topic we should take a deeper dive into.
While tacking a sanitizer onto your "phone, keys, wallet" mantra of essentials is definitely a good call, it’s important to understand what makes a sanitizer worth your while in the first place. After all, they’re not all created equally.
Many of the prevalent, recognizable hand sanitizers we’re familiar with rely on alcohol to kill off germs, which works, but we feel it’s not really the best option because the alcohol actually evaporates off your hands pretty quickly. When we set out to craft our Fresh Eir, we did add a dose of alcohol, but our primary ingredient is witch hazel, a hall-of-fame natural extract with antiseptic and antibacterial prowess. Witch hazel has been a dependable treatment in medicinal practices amongst Japanese, Chinese and Native Americans cultures for centuries. The tannins, volatile oils, gallic acid, resin, flavonoids (procyanidins), and other natural components in witch hazel give it its astringent, antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic qualities...if Mother Earth herself had a medicine cabinet, you’d definitely spot witch hazel on her shelves. (If you want to check out studies on properties of witch hazel, check out this article from the National Library of Medicine).
To finish off this little powerhouse in a pump and give it a lovely scent, we added some aloe to make sure it never dries you out, plus a bevy of wonderful essential oils including cypress, sage, and eucalyptus – all of which have been known for ages to have antiseptic qualities.
At a time where we’re unfortunately seeing some spiked prices for items that help keep us all healthy and safe, we’re offering to give you a second Fresh Eir at half the price because we know you’ll love it - and if you’re like us, you’ll run through it faster than you think!
The truth is, to keep your hands' germ-free, nothing beats washing with warm water and soap for a minimum of 20 seconds. But when running water isn’t available, keeping your hands clean doesn’t have to come at the price of using harsh ingredients or chemicals on your skin.
More goodies to keep in mind as we close out the winter season:
Before springtime comes back for good, make the most of the remaining chilly days by enjoying them with a hearty, healthful stew. We love this Butternut Squash Kale Quinoa Stew from Love and Lemons - it’s a delicious and cozy recipe that boasts the healthy helping of veggies you need. Make it as is or add extra veggies of your choice as we do.
Besides taking care of your body, we know it’s just as important to take care of your mind and soul. As seasonal shifts are brewing, take a moment to reset your new year intentions and reaffirm your earliest 2020 hopes and desires with some winter meditation. Meditation will help keep you focused and calm every day.
